Quick Answer
We would start with the Best Choice Products umbrella if budget rules: it is the lowest price at $74.99 and lists a steel pole with aluminum ribs and a crank lift with tilt. The Purple Leaf is $99.00 and its page lists an aluminum frame with eight iron ribs, a hand crank and a 30° dual-direction tilt. The California Umbrella is $132.15 and lists an all aluminum frame with 8 ribs and a crank that also tilts the canopy. The Blue Wave Cabo II is $136.99 and lists a 3 year warranty on the canopy and 1 year on the pole and frame. None of the four includes a base. All four are available on Amazon.
- Best Choice Products 9 ft: best for budget-minded buyers who want a 9 ft umbrella with a steel pole, crank lift and tilt, and will buy a base separately.
- Purple Leaf 9 ft Round Tilt: best for buyers who want a hand crank lift with 30° dual-direction tilt and a 200 gsm polyester canopy.
- California Umbrella 9 ft Round: best for buyers who want an all-aluminum frame with a Solstice canopy, crank lift and auto tilt.
- Blue Wave Cabo II 9 ft: best for buyers who want a 9 ft octagon with 57 sq ft of coverage, a push-button spring-assisted lift and a 3 year canopy warranty.

A 9 ft market umbrella is the standard shade size for a patio table, so we compared a Best Choice Products, a Purple Leaf, a California Umbrella, and a Blue Wave 9 ft umbrella side by side on frame material, canopy fabric, how they open and tilt, and warranty.
How We Chose
We compared four 9 ft market umbrellas from Best Choice Products, Purple Leaf, California Umbrella, and Blue Wave, all available on Amazon. The umbrellas are not identical. The Best Choice Products has a steel pole with aluminum ribs, the Purple Leaf has an aluminum frame with iron ribs, the California Umbrella and Blue Wave are all aluminum, and the Blue Wave opens with a push button, spring-assisted mechanism while the other three use a crank, so the price gap reflects real differences. Every spec in the table and every warranty line in the cards comes from the manufacturer’s own page and names it. We priced the California Umbrella ATA908117-F09, the Blue Wave NU6840 (Champagne), the Best Choice Products SKY11860 (Tan) and the Purple Leaf 9 ft round Gray, and the California Umbrella, Blue Wave and Best Choice Products pages cover the series. For the Purple Leaf, the specs come from the page for its Round Tiltable Patio Umbrella in 9 ft round Grey (ZY03-MLZXR09-GY-1). The Amazon listing shows no model number, so we matched it to that page on size, canopy, rib count, crank and tilt. Prices are Amazon prices checked in October 2026 and can change.

Best Choice Products 9ft Patio Market Umbrella with Scallop Trim, Crank and Tilt, Tan
$74.99 as of Oct 12, 2026, 6:24 pm CT on Amazon · lowest price
Best for: budget-minded buyers who want a 9 ft umbrella with a steel pole, crank lift and tilt, and will buy a base separately.
We would pick the Best Choice Products umbrella if you want the lowest price and are happy to buy a base separately. The Best Choice Products page lists the tan model (SKY11860) as a 9 ft umbrella that is 90 inches tall, with a powder-coated steel pole, reinforced aluminum ribs, a 210G polyester canopy, a crank lift with an airflow vent, and tilt. It says the base is not included. The Best Choice Products FAQ page gives a 60 day warranty period for authorized sales. It is available on Amazon.
Warranty: 60 days
Check Price on Amazon →PURPLE LEAF Patio Market Umbrella 9 ft Round, Dual Tilt, Gray
$99.00 as of Oct 12, 2026, 9:28 pm CT on Amazon · crank lift, dual tilt
Best for: buyers who want a hand crank lift with 30° dual-direction tilt and a 200 gsm polyester canopy.
We would pick the Purple Leaf if you want a crank umbrella with tilt for less than the California Umbrella or Blue Wave. Purple Leaf’s product page for the 9 ft round Grey lists a 200 gsm polyester canopy with AATCC level 4 colorfastness, an aluminum frame with eight iron ribs, a hand crank, and a push-button tilt of 30° in either direction. The page gives a gross weight of 20.68 lb and an umbrella height of 8.62 ft, and says the weighted base is not included. It lists a 2 year warranty on the fabric and a 1 year warranty on the parts. The page is for the Round Tiltable Patio Umbrella (ZY03-MLZXR09-GY-1), and the Amazon listing shows no model number, so we matched the two on size, canopy, rib count, crank and tilt. It is available on Amazon.
Warranty: Fabric 2 years, parts 1 year
Check Price on Amazon →California Umbrella 9 ft Round Aluminum Outdoor Deck, Pool or Patio Umbrella, Crank Lift, Auto Tilt
$132.15 as of Oct 12, 2026, 6:24 pm CT on Amazon · all aluminum, auto tilt
Best for: buyers who want an all-aluminum frame with a Solstice canopy, crank lift and auto tilt.
We like the California Umbrella for its all-aluminum frame and auto tilt, which tilts the canopy as you crank. California Umbrella’s page lists a 9 ft round canopy in Solstice fabric (the brand’s name for solution dyed olefin, UPF 90+), a patented auto tilt that tilts the canopy as you crank, and an aluminum frame with a 1.5 inch aluminum pole. California Umbrella’s page also lists 8 aluminum ribs, a resin hub and a double wind vent. California Umbrella says the base is not included, and its page lists a 1 year warranty on the frame and ribs and a 1 year warranty on Solstice fabric, so the canopy warranty depends on the fabric you choose. It is available on Amazon.
Warranty: Frame and ribs 1 year, olefin canopy 1 year
Check Price on Amazon →Blue Wave Cabo II 9-ft Spring-Up Octagon Market Umbrella with Breez-Tex Canopy
$136.99 as of Oct 12, 2026, 6:24 pm CT on Amazon · push button, 3 year canopy
Best for: buyers who want a 9 ft octagon with 57 sq ft of coverage, a push-button spring-assisted lift and a 3 year canopy warranty.
We like the Blue Wave Cabo II for its push-button opening and its longer canopy warranty. Blue Wave’s page describes up to 57 sq ft of shade, an 8-rib frame with a single wind vent and a 1.5 inch aluminum pole with a powder-coated finish, and a push button, spring-assisted opening with no tilt. The canopy is Breez-Tex fabric. Blue Wave lists dimensions of 9 ft by 9 ft by 7.75 ft, does not state a weight, says the base is sold separately, and gives a 3 year warranty on the fabric and 1 year on the pole and structure. It is available on Amazon.
Warranty: Canopy 3 years, pole and structure 1 year
Check Price on Amazon →Our Take
If price matters most, we would start with the Best Choice Products, which costs the least at $74.99, about $24 less than the Purple Leaf and roughly $57 to $62 less than the other two, but it has a steel pole and the shortest warranty, at 60 days. The Purple Leaf is the next step up at $99.00: like the Best Choice Products it has a crank and tilt, and its page lists an aluminum frame and a 2 year fabric warranty. If you want a tilting canopy and an all-aluminum frame, we like the California Umbrella, which has both. We like the Blue Wave as the only one that opens without a crank, and its 3 year canopy warranty is longer than the 2 years on the Purple Leaf fabric and the 1 year on the California Umbrella’s olefin canopy. Remember that none of the four includes a base, so add that cost.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do these umbrellas come with a base?
Best Choice Products (per its product page), Purple Leaf (per its product page), California Umbrella and Blue Wave all say the base is sold separately, so we would add that cost to your budget.
What is the difference between a crank umbrella and a spring-up umbrella?
The Best Choice Products, Purple Leaf and California Umbrella use a crank to raise the canopy, and all three tilt. The Blue Wave opens with a push button, spring-assisted mechanism rather than a crank, and it does not tilt.
What warranty do these patio umbrellas have?
We would compare them this way: Blue Wave states 3 years on the fabric and 1 year on the pole and structure. Purple Leaf’s product page lists 2 years on the fabric and 1 year on the parts. California Umbrella lists 1 year on the frame and ribs, with the canopy warranty depending on the fabric (1 year for its olefin canopy). Best Choice Products lists a 60 day warranty period for authorized sales on its FAQ page.
How big is a 9 ft umbrella?
We take a 9 ft umbrella to be 9 ft across when open. Blue Wave says its canopy gives up to 57 sq ft of shade. The other three did not state a shade area on the pages we read.
What does the Purple Leaf 9 ft umbrella include?
Purple Leaf’s product page for the 9 ft round Grey lists a 200 gsm polyester canopy, an aluminum frame with eight iron ribs, a hand crank and a push-button tilt of 30° in either direction. It says the weighted base is not included, so we would budget for a base.
