An electric fireplace is a heater and a focal point in one, and the three here are all slim linear units about 48 to 50 inches wide that plug into a standard outlet. They come from Dimplex, Napoleon and Westinghouse.
How We Chose
We picked one wall-mount linear electric fireplace from each of Dimplex, Napoleon and Westinghouse, all between 48 and 50 inches wide with a heater of 1,400 to 1,500 watts. They are not identical: the Dimplex is a surface-mount unit that can also stand on a tabletop, while the Napoleon and Westinghouse also list a recessed install, and the Napoleon costs more than twice as much as the Westinghouse. This is a researched comparison, and prices were checked this month. Specs come from each manufacturer’s own page where it gives them. Warranty terms come from the manufacturer’s own website, then from the Amazon listing, and we say so where only the listing gave one. Each card lists the warranty.

Pick the Dimplex for the lowest price and the option to stand it on a table instead of mounting it. Pick the Westinghouse if you want app and voice control and a recessed install at a middle price. Pick the Napoleon if you are building the fireplace into a wall and want the glass ember media and a thermostat with a timer. As general guidance, check the outlet and circuit before you buy, since all three draw 1,400 to 1,500 watts.
