An electric smoker plugs in, takes wood for flavor, and runs at a temperature you set. This comparison puts three electric smokers from Masterbuilt, Pit Boss and SmokinTex side by side on cooking area, controls, temperature range, size, weight and warranty.
How We Chose
We compared three electric smokers from Masterbuilt, Pit Boss and SmokinTex. All three are available on Amazon. The Masterbuilt and the Pit Boss are 30-inch vertical smokers with digital controls, but they are not identical: the Pit Boss adds Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, runs to 300°F against 275°F, and lists 880 sq in against 710. The SmokinTex is a different tier: an insulated stainless steel smoker with 210 sq in of rack space that costs about three times as much as the Pit Boss, so it suits buyers who want a compact smoker with a long warranty rather than the most cooking area. We left out Char-Broil because its own site now lists no electric smoker (only a gas model), and Cuisinart because we found no electric smoker it was offering with an add-to-cart button on Amazon. Other brands in Amazon’s electric smoker results are lesser known, so we did not include them. Specs come from each manufacturer’s page where it gave one, and each cell names its source. Warranty terms come from the manufacturer’s own website where it names the model or product line, then from the Amazon listing, and we say so where neither gave a length. This is a researched comparison, not a hands-on test, so we make no claims about smoke flavor, temperature accuracy, or build quality beyond what each page says. Prices are Amazon prices checked in October 2026 and can change.

Masterbuilt 30-Inch Digital Electric Smoker with Window and Legs
$268.51 as of Oct 1, 2026, 7:00 pm CT on Amazon · lowest price, digital controls
Best for: buyers who want digital controls and 710 sq in of cooking space in a vertical smoker.
The listing is for the 30-inch digital model with window and legs, model MB20070421, which matches Masterbuilt’s page for the same model number. Masterbuilt’s page lists 710 sq in of cooking space, a 100 to 275°F range, a size of 23.6 x 22.8 x 42.1 in, and room for 6 chickens, 2 turkeys, 4 pork butts or 4 racks of ribs; its warranty page gives a 1 year warranty for its products. Neither Masterbuilt’s page nor its manual gave a weight, so the 50.3 lb comes from the Amazon listing. We use Masterbuilt’s figures where they differ from the listing. Masterbuilt’s own store showed this model as sold out when we checked on October 1, 2026. It is available on Amazon.
Check Price on Amazon →Pit Boss 30-Inch Digital Vertical Smoker with Wi-Fi
$329.99 as of Oct 1, 2026, 7:00 pm CT on Amazon · most cooking area, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
Best for: buyers who want Wi-Fi and Bluetooth control with the most cooking area here (880 sq in).
Pit Boss’s page for the 30-Inch Digital Vertical Smoker with Wi-Fi (SKU 11093, model PBV30DS) lists 880 sq in of cooking space, a 100 to 300°F range, a 1,650-watt heating element, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity with an included meat probe, and a 3 year warranty. The page describes four racks in its description and six racks in its feature list, so we give no rack count. It gives no weight or size, so those come from the Amazon listing. It is available on Amazon.
Check Price on Amazon →SmokinTex The OG Electric Smoker
$999.00 as of Oct 1, 2026, 7:00 pm CT on Amazon · 5 year warranty, smallest footprint
Best for: buyers who want the smallest footprint here (17.5 x 21 x 29 in) and a 5 year warranty.
SmokinTex’s page for The OG (formerly the Pro 1400, model 1400) lists 210 sq in of rack space with 5 rack positions, a 38 lb food capacity, a 700-watt heating element, a 100 to 250°F range, double-wall insulation, a stainless steel body and about 93 lb, and says it arrives assembled. Its warranty page lists 5 years for the OG. The Amazon listing shows a different weight and warranty in its details table, so we use SmokinTex’s figures. The listing’s part number field reads 1100, which is SmokinTex’s smaller Lil’ Tex, but its title, bullets and model number (1400) all describe The OG. It is available on Amazon.
Check Price on Amazon →Our Take
If you want the lowest price, the Masterbuilt lists digital controls and 710 sq in on Masterbuilt’s page, with a 1 year warranty. If you want the most cooking area, the Pit Boss lists 880 sq in, a 300°F maximum, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth control and a 3 year warranty. The SmokinTex lists only 210 sq in, so it is the one to look at if a compact, insulated stainless steel body and a 5 year warranty matter more than capacity, and it costs about three times as much as the Pit Boss. Electric smokers need an outlet nearby and a supply of wood for flavor, so factor those in. We did not test any of them.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best electric smoker overall?
For most people the Pit Boss 30-Inch Digital with Wi-Fi is the most complete one here: 880 sq in, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth control, a 300°F maximum and a 3 year warranty, at a price between the other two. The Masterbuilt is the lower cost option with digital controls and 710 sq in.
Is the SmokinTex worth about three times the price?
The SmokinTex lists 210 sq in of rack space, against 710 for the Masterbuilt and 880 for the Pit Boss, so the extra money does not buy capacity. It buys a compact insulated stainless steel body and a 5 year warranty. We did not test it, so whether that is worth it depends on how much those points matter to you.
Do electric smokers need wood chips or pellets?
The Masterbuilt has a side wood chip loader, the Pit Boss page says it takes wood chips or pellets, and SmokinTex says any dry hardwood works with no pellets or special woods required. Each one uses electricity for heat and wood for flavor.
What warranty do these electric smokers have?
Masterbuilt’s warranty page gives 1 year for its products, the Pit Boss product page lists a 3 year warranty, and SmokinTex’s warranty page lists 5 years for The OG. Terms can differ by seller and region, so confirm before you buy.
Why is Char-Broil not in this comparison?
Char-Broil’s own site now lists only a gas smoker in its smokers collection. Its analog electric smoker (model 18202077) has a parts page but no product page, so we could not confirm its specs or warranty from the manufacturer.
