A squeeze filter lets you drink from streams and lakes on the trail without carrying all your water. This comparison puts the Sawyer Squeeze, LifeStraw Peak Series, and Platypus Quickdraw side by side on weight, what is included, filter claims, flow, and warranty.

How We Chose

We compared three squeeze-style backpacking water filters from Sawyer, LifeStraw, and Platypus, all available on Amazon. We left out Katadyn because the BeFree offers we found were from a third-party seller. We also left out Grayl because its GeoPress is a press-style purifier, not a squeeze filter. The three are not identical. The Sawyer includes two pouches and a cleaning kit, while the LifeStraw is a 1 liter bottle system and the Platypus includes a 1 liter reservoir, so what you get in the box differs. The manufacturer pages state different filter claims, and where a page gave no value, such as a flow rate, we say so. Specs come from the manufacturer page where it gave a value, then from the Amazon listing, and the Sawyer page covers the SP129CL, the closest model it names. Where a listing did not state a warranty, we checked the manufacturer’s own website. This is a researched comparison, not a hands-on test, so we make no claims about flow over time or durability beyond what each listing says, and this is not medical advice. Prices are Amazon prices checked in September 2026 and can change.

Our Take

If price matters most, the LifeStraw is the cheapest, includes a bottle, and is the lightest at 3.2 oz. If you want the most in the box, the Sawyer includes two pouches, a cleaning plunger, gravity tubing and adapters, though at 8.19 oz on its product page it is the heaviest of the three. If you want a stated flow rate, the Platypus lists 3 liters per minute. All three have strong warranties on their manufacturer pages, but the Sawyer covers the filter only. None of the filters claims virus removal, and the LifeStraw and Platypus pages say outright that they do not remove viruses, so check the source of your water and follow each manufacturer’s instructions. We did not test any of them.
